How it Began |
|||||
The motivation for the "Moose Run" came through the radio from the voice of a little girl that was being treated at the "Barbara Bush Children's Hospital" in Portland. Woody Bichrest was puttering around outside his house when he heard this precious child explain how her friends would stay and visit her longer if only there were more tricycles. She was in the terminal ward. Woody and Laura, his wife, contacted the hospital to see how they could help. They learned that part of the problem with the tricycles was that children on IV's couldn't ride them. They knew who would help support their cause and organized a motorcycle run to assist with funding. With the success of the "Moose Run", they went to work; made proto-types and finally produced a tricycle equipped with an IV pole that wouldn't tip over so a sick child could ride too. The finished product was delivered to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in the Spring. A special thank you to Laura and Woody for their work, organizating, and and above all - their kind-heartedness! |
